Ever heard the argument that it’s “not realistic” to put more women in fantasy? Even when it’s a given it has magic? Dragons? Armies of the undead?
Courtesy of TOR comes this amazing article by Kate Elliott on women in fantasy. It starts by addressing this common and broad point that it’s not that implausible to have a few more women around when you have things and creatures in your story that have literally never existed, but moves way, way beyond that as it tackles the roles and representation of women in all spheres of society all throughout history, and how that might be applied to better fantasy writing.
I highly recommend it in its entirety.
